Pelham Architects are proud to support NCHA’s award-nominated retrofit programme

We’re delighted to share some exciting news: NCHA has been shortlisted in two categories at the Efficiency East Midlands (EEM) Building Communities Awards 2026 – Collaborative Working and Resident Impact. These nominations recognise the outstanding efforts of NCHA and their contractor, Westville, in delivering energy efficiency upgrades to hundreds of homes across the regions they serve.

Collaborative working

This category celebrates the exceptional teamwork behind NCHA’s Retrofit programme. By improving insulation in the least energy-efficient homes, NCHA has achieved a remarkable milestone: over 92% of customer homes now have an EPC rating of Band C or higher.
These upgrades make homes warmer for longer, healthier, and cheaper to heat. From external wall insulation and solar panels to new windows, loft insulation, and improved ventilation systems, every improvement reduces heat loss, cuts carbon emissions, and boosts comfort for residents.

Pelham Architects has played a pivotal role in this success. Our team submitted planning applications for over 230 homes across 13 local authorities, enabling NCHA and Westville to carry out these vital works efficiently and on schedule.

Resident impact

The Resident Impact nomination is particularly meaningful, as it reflects the real-life benefits these improvements bring. One elderly couple reported saving £54 per month on energy bills after their home was insulated, while another customer joked their home was “almost too warm” during the harshest winter months. These stories highlight the tangible difference sustainable design can make.

Looking ahead

These works form part of NCHA’s ongoing commitment to greener, more energy-efficient homes, in line with their Environmental Sustainability strategy. We’re proud to support this vision and help deliver homes that are better for people and the planet.

The winners will be announced at a formal ceremony at Derby Arena on Friday, 20 March 2026 – watch this space!
