Design for green council homes

We're excited to be working with Nottingham City Council on the design of a new development of 129 council homes in Bestwood as part of the Building a Better Nottingham project.

The brief was to design a quiet, relaxing green neighbourhood where a healthy, cohesive community can grow. A lot of thought has also gone into the design of the green spaces with the inclusion of flowering and fruit trees and a grassed recreation area.

The homes are being built on land off Beckhampton Road, and will consist of one, two and three bed properties, including homes, flats and wheelchair accessible bungalows. All of which are in high demand from local families in the Bestwood area.

To improve natural surveillance of the streets the design includes continuous frontage to avoid ugly gaps between homes as well as providing a mix of on-street and off-street parking bays. We have also placed three storey flats at key junctions to improve wayfinding.

The development is being constructed by Lovell Homes and they will go to local people on the council house waiting list at affordable rents.

These homes are designed to be energy efficient and include solar panels to help reduce running costs. The first phase of the build is due to be complete by autumn 2023.
