Celebrating shared ownership month

Designing affordable homes with purpose

At Pelham Architects, we’re proud to support shared ownership month - a national campaign that shines a spotlight on the importance of shared ownership in tackling the housing crisis and helping more people onto the property ladder.

As architects committed to social value and sustainability, we see shared ownership not just as a tenure type, but as a powerful tool for building inclusive, resilient communities. Our recent developments at College Way in Bilborough and Daleside Road in Nottingham are perfect examples of how thoughtful design can make shared ownership homes both affordable and aspirational.

What shared ownership means to us

Shared ownership offers a flexible, accessible route into homeownership - especially for first-time buyers and key workers. But affordability should never mean compromise. At Pelham, we design homes that are:

  • Beautifully crafted and energy-efficient
  • Rooted in community with green spaces and walkable layouts
  • Future-proofed for changing needs and lifestyles

College Way, Bilborough

Delivered in partnership with NCHA and Mercer Building Solutions, College Way features 50 gas-free homes - 24 of which are for shared ownership. These homes are EPC A-rated, with air-source heat pumps and solar panels, helping to reduce carbon emissions.

This development is a celebration of what shared ownership can achieve: high-quality, low-carbon homes that are accessible to more people.

Daleside Road, Nottingham

On a former industrial site just outside Nottingham city centre, our Daleside Road scheme has transformed a brownfield plot into 82 affordable homes, including 25 for shared ownership. Built using sustainable timber frame construction, these homes are designed for modern urban living - efficient, well-connected, and community-focused.

Building a brighter future

At Pelham, we’re proud to be part of a movement that’s redefining what affordable housing can be. Through shared ownership, we’re helping more people take their first step onto the property ladder, without compromising on quality, sustainability, or design.

As a social enterprise owned by NCHA, every project we deliver reinvests in our communities. Whether it’s a small rural scheme or a large urban regeneration project, our goal remains the same: to design homes that people are proud to live in.
